Modular rotary table system – positioned precisely and in a highly dynamic manner

In order for the machine builder to further develop his competitiveness in the future, the step towards optimising the system processes is indispensable.  Dynamic and precise drive components often play a decisive role thereby.  The modular rotary table system from JAT fully meets these requirements and will be presented to the broad specialist audience for the first time at the SPS IPC Drives 2018.

When designing the new modular rotary table system, the future requirements of the machine and system builders were in focus for Jenaer Antriebstechnik. In addition, the cooperation with the partners THK and TECNOTION helped to develop the system. Thanks to the combination of the various company competencies about precision bearings and torque motors, a scalable and coordinated rotary table system was created. The rated torque range extends from 1.1 Nm (peak 3.8 Nm) to 154.5 Nm (peak 500 Nm) and thereby covers almost every application.

High flexibility and modularity


For the machine designer, the choice of a rotary table system focuses on a compact, space-saving design and a scalable offer. In this regard, he is offered a large selection of standard modules that can be quickly and individually compiled and adapted for the corresponding application. The JAT rotary table systems convince due to their low height and thus require very little space. The customer is supported by JAT specialists throughout the entire solution process, from concept development to commissioning and subsequent training. The engineers design the rotary table system in accordance with the requirements for the application, such as size, dynamics and cycle times. In the end, the customer receives an individual, parameterised and ready-to-connect drive system, but saves a long and costly development phase.

Wide variety

A plurality of design variants and options increase the possible applications for the machine builder. Thus, the rotary table systems are available as a standard version with a classic ball bearing and are equipped with cross-roller bearings for high-precision applications. Incremental, absolute or sine/cosine encoders are already pre-assembled as position feedback. In addition, the machine builder can choose from a range of options such as holding brake, different feedthroughs, flexible mounting options and flange designs, etc. The length of the connection cables as well as the connector design can also be determined freely.

Multi-functional servo system

The servo amplifiers from JAT offer flexibility and openness to higher-level control systems. The protocols PROFINET and EtherCAT are available via the Ethernet fieldbus. The controllers additionally support PROFIBUS, CANopen, as well as RS-485 and RS-232. The powerful servo amplifiers are available in various performance classes and they are particularly suitable for highly dynamic applications. The user has a technology function integrated in the firmware for rotary table control. This permits easy and comfortable commissioning. The positioning of a rotary table in the range of 0-360° as well as multiple revolutions is done in an instant thanks to the intuitive operation of the commissioning tool ECOSTUDIO. The rotary table function also includes a parametrizable modulo function and the "positioning by the shortest route" function. These functions increase production efficiency additionally, as cycle times can be significantly reduced in this manner.

Areas of application

Thanks to the wide variety, the high degree of flexibility and modularity, the rotary table systems can be adapted individually to practically any application. Thus, they are suitable for a wide variety of industries and industrial sectors. As the rotary table systems position themselves highly dynamically, they are particularly suitable for laser marking systems, electronic component production, bonding and optical machines and handling machines. The customer may also count on the support of JAT specialists during the entire project phase. JAT offers a wide range of services, starting with the dimensioning through the parameterisation to the commissioning on site. Training and JAT engineering software and remote maintenance complete the service package. All these points ensure that the machine and system builder receives the rotary table entire system that is individually tailored to his needs.
