With this step, faCellitate reinforces its product portfolio and reaffirms its commitment to supporting researchers in drug development worldwide. By delivering cutting-edge surface technologies, faCelitate enables consistent and reproducible cell culture, driving innovation and reliability in research.
Built on the company’s proven BIOFLOAT™ surface technology, the new plate provides a highly defined, fully inert, cell-repellent surface for fast spheroid formation and consistent morphology across all 1536 wells. The result is high-quality data with fewer repeats, smoother automation, and lower cost per experiment.
“With this launch, we are giving screening teams a practical way to bring 3D biology into true high-throughput workflows” said Dr. Sandra Segeletz, Director of R&D at faCellitate. “The BIOFLOAT™ 1536-well ULA plate enables rapid, uniform spheroid formation and supports the consistency required for large-scale screening. The U-bottom geometry reliably centers spheroids, the black walls minimize light scattering for high-contrast readouts, and the BIOFLOAT™ surface ensures robust spheroid formation, even with scarce or sensitive cell types.”
Key Benefits & Features
-
Rapid, uniform, reproducible spheroids: BIOFLOAT™ coating promotes fast formation with tight size distribution and consistent morphology across all 1536 wells.
-
Optimized for HTS: Engineered for reproducible, high-density readouts in ultra-high-throughput screening environments.
-
U-bottom geometry: centers spheroids consistently for reliable imaging and downstream analysis.
-
Black walls, clear round bottoms: minimize light scattering for clean, high-contrast signals.
-
Automation-ready & confocal-friendly: compatible with liquid-handling robots, plate readers, and confocal microscopy.
-
Miniaturized workflows: reduce reagent consumption and overall cost per experiment.
-
Reliable with scarce cell types: supports spheroid formation even where conventional ULA plates may fail.

faCellitate develops patented polymeric surface coatings for plastic and glassware enabling 3-dimensional cell culture, amongst other uses. Initially, the technology was developed at the BASF research department for polymers. The company and team were formed at Chemovator during a nearly three year incubation period and spun-off end of 2021. During the period at Chemovator from BASF, the company turned the technology platform into a pipeline of high-tech applications and start building an international digital marketing platform.
faCellitate is also advancing its platform technology into other areas. Under the brand BIOINSTRUCT™, the company is applying its technology to modify polymer coated surfaces with peptides to create biospecific lab material surfaces for customers.
