European platform for medical device services continues to grow

The GBA Group has acquired a majority stake in Johner Institut GmbH (Johner Institute), further expanding its position as a leading European platform for medical device services. With the internationally recognized expertise and excellent reputation of the Johner Institute, the GBA Group significantly strengthens its regulatory and technological capabilities in the medical device sector and expands its service portfolio, particularly in consulting and training. The acquisition represents the next logical step in the GBA Group’s strategy to further strengthen its market position in the life sciences sector.

The Johner Institute was founded in 2013 by Prof. Dr. Christian Johner in Konstanz and today employs more than 120 people. The company is one of Europe’s leading consultancies for medical devices and in vitro diagnostics. It supports more than 10,000 companies worldwide in developing, bringing to market, and monitoring their products safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the entire product lifecycle. Its service portfolio includes education and training programs, regulatory consulting, product testing, as well as outsourcing and RegTech solutions. As a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence, the Johner Institute consistently integrates innovative AI technologies into its services. This enables the company to cover the full regulatory spectrum for medical devices and in vitro diagnostics across all lifecycle phases.

“Having the Johner Institute and its highly competent network of experts as part of our organization is a milestone for the GBA Group. With the Johner Institute, we are not only gaining outstanding regulatory expertise but also entrepreneurial innovation in the future-oriented MedTech sector,” explains Steffen Walter, CEO of the GBA Group. “The Johner Institute stands for exceptional MedTech expertise in product development, regulatory compliance, software, and AI, and will play a key role in shaping the future development of our global platform, GBA Group MedTech Solutions.”

Prof. Dr. Christian Johner, founder of the Johner Institute, adds: “We founded the Johner Institute with the ambition not only to guide manufacturers through complex regulatory requirements in the best possible way, but also to actively contribute to shaping the regulatory system itself.
