proFRAME Base Board 3.1 PXIe

Making its debut at embedded world, the proFRAME Base Board 3.1 PXIe is the latest member of the proFRAME product family of modular video grabber and playback systems, offering support for most automotive, industrial and medical cameras and displays.

The robust 3U module uses the PXI Express Gen 3 x8 bus and brings proFRAME’s wide range of supported interfaces (GMSL, FPD-Link, GVIF3, ASA Motion Link and more) to PXIe-based systems. It is designed for use in measuring and automation systems deployed in production and machine supervision or industrial testing applications in the aerospace, automotive and railway fields. A typical application is the automated testing of automotive cameras, supporting a wide array of cameras, displays, and ECUs.

Just like earlier PCIe and CompactPCI Serial base boards, the new PXIe module realizes support for a variety of transmission standards through two slots for easily swappable proFRAME interface adapters, with each base board supporting up to eight video streams.

To speed up adoption of the proFRAME system into existing PXIe-based testing systems, Solectrix offers configuration files for a multitude of cameras from launch and supports integration into National Instruments’ LabVIEW platform.

Vision Prototyping as a Service – with SXIVE 3.0

The latest installment of the Rapid Imaging Prototyping System SXIVE aims to bridge the gap between prototype and target, particularly by simplifying implementation of the modeled system on SoC platforms, which often come with their own black box ISP. While SXIVE 2.0 is uniquely suited to testing a wide range of sensors and algorithms in pre-development phase, often shortening the time to an initial image to a week or two, the system has so far been primarily aimed at eventual ISP implementation on FPGAs.

Answering customer calls for more support with implementation on SoCs, the new SXIVE 3.0 is built around the idea of “Vision Prototyping as a Service”. It introduces an intermediate format that abstracts and encapsulates the ISP configuration developed in the GPU-based prototyping environment, making it transferable to manufacturer-specific SoC ISPs. Fine-tuning of the overall ISP chain thus focuses on aligning this configuration with the behavior and constraints of the SoC’s integrated, largely opaque ISP blocks, identifying deviations early and compensating for them through targeted adjustments and complementary pre-processing steps.

By dealing with such issues within the dedicated target architecture on a PC-based platform before the final implementation on an embedded system, SXIVE 3.0 makes a large swath of debugging options and tools available at a crucial point in the project’s development. This approach ultimately ensures that the final image is extremely close to the results achieved with the prototyping configuration, thus immensely shortening implementation time on the series production target platform and lowering development costs.

The SXIVE 3.0 software package retains all features of the previous iterations, including the SXIVE SoftISP SDK, the SXIVE Calibration SDK, the SXIVE Sensor Configuration Tool, and advanced image quality analysis courtesy of the powerful iQ-Analyzer-X from Image Engineering. Target markets include robotics and automotive projects by tier ones utilizing, e.g., ARM-based SoCs.

SXVPU – Smart eXtensible Vision Processing Unit

SXVPU is an AI-powered imaging platform designed to tackle challenges like object recognition and machine learning integration through its efficient real-time processing of high-resolution video streams up to 4K.

The new SXVPU model boasts a metal housing with IP67 protection, making it ideal for the harsh environments typically associated with its targeted use in industrial and agricultural vehicles.

New proFRAME Camera Adapters for ASA Motion Link

Now available, the camera adapter camAD3 QUAD VS775s supports the transmission of video data using the ASA Motion Link standard. Installed on a proFRAME 3.0 Base Board (all form factors), the camera adapter can be used both in data loggers for the recording of camera data streams (video capture) and in HiL setups for the playback of video data (video replay).

The ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML) standard, launched by the Automotive SerDes Alliance in 2019, addresses a similar field of application as the established GMSL and FPD-Link technologies. The focus is on the asymmetric transmission of CSI-2 video data and control information (I²C, GPIO) between cameras or (touch) displays and control devices.

The adapter is equipped with four VS775s (Microchip) (de)serializer chips. Solectrix offers two product variants: the camAD3 QUAD VS775s 4xIN can capture up to four CSI-2 video data streams. The camAD3 QUAD VS775s 2xIN/2xOUT can capture up to two CSI-2 video data streams in so-called tap mode and play back up to two CSI-2 video data streams.

In addition to Power over Coax, it also supports sideband/backchannel communication (I²C) for the exchange of initialization sequences and control signals.

New Accessories for Testing of ECUs with Connected Cameras

Also now available, the PoC Fault Injection Unit is an independent device that is connected between ECU and camera and which can be used to deliberately modify the PoC current from the ECU.

It enables the simulation of overload situations like those caused by a surprisingly strong power demand from a camera or by additional electrical loads like a lens heating or LEDs for driver supervision systems. The ECU’s reaction to short circuits can also be tested.

New proFRAME Feature: I²C Fault Injection

A now available proFRAME feature called I²C Fault Injection offers the user the possibility to manipulate the I²C communication between an ECU and a camera by injecting faults. For this purpose, the proFRAME is operated in TAP mode as a so-called “man in the middle” between an ECU and one or more cameras.

I²C Fault Injection enables the implementation of various test scenarios. For example, the proFRAME can be used to generate bit errors – possibly caused by faults on the I²C transmission path in reality. Alternatively, return values from a sensor in response to a register read command from an ECU can also be changed. An example of this is the targeted setting of error bits of a camera sensor (e.g. “temperature too high”) in order to validate the ECU’s reaction to such an event.

SXVPU (Smart eXtensible Video Processing Unit) is an AI-powered imaging platform designed to tackle challenges like object recognition and machine learning integration through its efficient real-time processing of high-resolution video streams up to 4K. It is thus suited for applications like machine control and automation, for example in agricultural engineering, monitoring of construction sites and work environments, as well as collision avoidance systems.

With its specialized AMD-based hardware architecture and support for multiple cameras and sensors, SXVPU is set up to use impeccable image data straight from the sensor for processing by neural networks or conventional algorithms before encoding the data for low-latency transmission to other system components. Thanks to an integrated H.265/H.265 codec, streaming of the compressed video data is supported in resolutions up to 4K – via Ethernet by default, but also via modern wireless networks as an alternative.

SXVPU is designed for 24/7 safeguarded operation, which is possible even in challenging settings with heat, cold, dust or humidity thanks to its housing with IP65 protection (IP67 optional). sinaSCOPE Inspect – 3D Microscopy System for Industrial Applications

View objects comfortably on a big 3D display in 4K cinema quality instead of through a small eyepiece! Ergonomically improved working is actively supported and concentration is significantly improved.

sinaSCOPE Inspect is a complete 3D microscopy system suited for customer-specific microscopy in different areas of electronics manufacturing, e.g., industrial inspection of printed circuit boards. It comes equipped with two digital 4K cameras, a 3D display and an image processing unit. It provides a live 3D image without the need for 3D glasses.

The system illuminates the object and magnifies it by a factor of 6× to 30×. Should an application required stronger magnification, lenses with a range of 8× to 42× are also available. The camera heads are located 43 cm above the object, leaving the user a lot of space for his activities.

Another advantage of the digital technology: Photos and videos can be captured with the press of a button and are available for use and archiving after your work has concluded.

VIORYTI ® GATE AX1 – Gateway for Demanding Industrial Applications

Making its first appearance at the Solectrix booth will be VIORYTI ® GATE AX1 by AST-X, a hybrid gateway for IoT applications collecting data from IoT LPWAN sensors. It provides different LPWAN radio communication channels like mioty®, LoRa® and wM-Bus in one device and forwards the sensor data towards a Network Service Center as part of the central backend in the mioty® or LoRaWAN® infrastructure.
